3 Software Assurance Competency Model Nancy Mead, May 20, 2013 © 2013 Carnegie Mellon University Questions (1) The Initial Questions about Future Changes If the construction phase can be completely automated, what do we need to teach students about it? What do we need to teach students about development processes and their management, when all projects have to be increasingly agile? The focus of system development is shifting from constructing comparatively closed entities to managing the evolution of a web of interconnected parts. So, what do we need to teach students about the way in which the software engineering task is changing? Since changing requirements are a consequence of changes to the businesses that give rise to the requirements, what do we need to teach students about the natures of these businesses? If engineering is meant to involve applying science, what aspects of science do we need to teach, to equip students to do a proper job of engineering software systems?
