Voltage and Energy  It is a measure of how much work is needed to move a charge between two points  Higher voltage is the more energy released per charge.

Voltage and Electric Current  As long as there is a voltage between two points on a wire, charges will flow in the wire.  The greater the voltage is, the greater the current.  The size of the current depends on the voltage.  A greater current means that more charges move in the wire each second.  A large current is needed to start a car. So, the bin a car has a fairly high voltage of 12 V (Volts – V).  In equations, the symbol for voltage is V.

Varying Nature of Voltage  Things that run on batteries usually need a low voltage (portable radio = 3 V)  An eel can give off a voltage of more than 600 V.  Most devices in the average household use changing currents from an outlet.  In U.S, electrical usually supply A.C at 120 V. So that’s why most electrical devices are produced to run on 120 V.
