HISTORY by Christos Sklivanos! 3 rd Grade HighSchool Teacher: Sonia Fotiadou January 2009

THE WORD History is a science that has existed for thousands of years now. How did it all start though? What exactly is HISTORY and what kind of images show up when we talk about it?

IMAGES When we talk about HISTORY most of us think about a boring school subject. Others think about wars, mixing of populations, important facts and evolution.

THE START History was “born” in the 5 th century B.C. As most of you already know the “father” of history was Irodotos the Greek. Irodotos is considered to be the father of history since he was the only one who first described an important event, the Persian Wars.

THE PARTS Scientists have separated history in 5 different categories: (Ancient, Roman, Byzantine, Medieval and Present). Each category contains both positive and negative things and refers to different eras of human existence.

ANCIENT HISTORY In the ancient history we find information about civilizations like the Egyptians, the Persians and the Greeks.

ROMAN HISTORY In the Roman history we can find information about the roman civilization. The structures, the empire, the conquests, the defeats and the emperors.

BYZANTINE HISTORY During the Byzantine Empire many marvelous things were achieved. Magnificent churches, universities and building were constructed Konstantinoupolis were built.

MEDIEVAL HISTORY In the medieval period many things happened. An empire collapsed, medicine evolved, the Turks appeared and Europe was united.

PRESENT HISTORY The present history is a dark era. An era of war, destruction, and barbarosity. World wars 1 and 2 changed the status of most nations. However something positive occurred. Science and technology developed.

We must all understand that the world was not always the same. The world in which we live today was forged with fire, steel and inventions. This is HISTORY! A nation which does not know and does not honour its history is a nation with no future!
