Lo and skill: To learn to use and spell pronouns.

A pronoun can replace the name of a person or an object

Sophie ran into school. Sophie was late. Mr Warren, Sophie’s teacher, would be annoyed. Sophie hung Sophie’s bag on Sophie’s peg and rushed to the classroom. “Where have you been?” asked Mr Warren. “We were worried,” Mr Warren said.

A pronoun can replace the name of a person or an object Sophie ran into school. She was late. Mr Warren, her teacher, would be annoyed. Sophie hung her bag on her peg and rushed to the classroom. “Where have you been?” asked Mr Warren. “We were worried,” he said.

Oral activity – read out these sentences and provide the correct pronoun. The children got out the children’s reading books and began to read the reading books. Mrs Savva was baking an apple pie. Mrs Savva put the ingredients in a bowl and Mrs Savva began to mix the ingredients. The boys took the boys’ football out onto the field and the boys began kicking the football.

Partner Work 1.Now use the whiteboards to compose a similar sentence for your partner to try. 2.Make a collection of pronouns used instead of people’s names. Remember that although many of these are small words, they are used all the time and need to be spelt correctly.
