Health in Sheffield 500,000 People Diverse geography/ population City never healthier than now Infant mortality, at around 5 deaths per 1000 live births, is lower than it has ever been Mortality rates falling: –Cancer: 123 per 100,000 per year –CHD: 92 per 100,000 per year Life expectancy increasing: –77 years for men –81 years for women A very average City Challenges Demographic changes: 1900:17 working for every 1 retired 2031:2.5 working for every 1 retired Concerns about years of health Not infectious disease but chronic ill health Mental health Health inequity
