WELCOME TO VICTORIA C P SCHOOL, WREXHAM We have put together a montage of pictures and words showing the work that we have done throughout the year to improve our outdoor areas. We hope, like us, you will enjoy the journey around the school.

THE CLEAN UP DAY Volunteers, children, parents, staff, friends joined us for a big clean up day in March. The skip was full by the end of the morning. New raised beds were constructed and filled ready for growing. The money for the new raised beds was awarded by Offa Community Council following a letter of request by the school. The Community Council is a great supporter of the school and the school in turn gives of their time to help in the clean up days and planting projects at the park. The Pond area was strimmed ready for the wild flowers to grow. Everyone had a great day. We certainly will do it again.

THE CLEAN UP DAY

AROUND THE SCHOOL IN 2O MINUTES As you enter the Junior playground you will see the garden that has been created to celebrate Adam’s life. Adam’s garden is mainly a spring garden with lots of bulbs, pansies and brightly coloured spring flowers. We decided to do this as this is the time when the children are in school to enjoy the area.

Adam’s Rest

THE JOURNEY – The Brother Area We will then enter the school and walk through passing Years 5 and 6 to walk out to the Brother Area. This was created by the team from Brother and many business people giving of their time and materials free of charge. It was completed in July The School Council presented their idea to Brother Industries who felt it a worthwhile project to give of their time and money as part of Brother Earth. The Brother Area is used by the Upper School as their outside ‘common room’ playing draughts and chess and enjoying the fresh air. Water butts are well used, planting is structural and the sound of the bamboo can be heard rustling in the wind. The container was painted by a very talented father who took 2 days to complete the job.

The Brother Area

OUR NEWLY CREATED AREA The area that we will now walk into from the Brother Area has only just been completed. It was an idea that Year 4 came up with during Climate Change Week. It is yet to be named. They wanted to do something with an area that had been forgotten. The money has been made available by the Friends of Victoria and the school and also from another £1,000 that was awarded by Brother Industries. The remainder of the money will be spent looking after the outdoor classroom and sanding and staining the picnic benches on the field. This area is now being used by children and like the Brother Area has to be looked after by the children. Planting was chosen taking into account the shade that the wall and the trees give and of course watering during the holiday times when the school is empty. The great wall paintings were done by the children.

OUR NEW AREA

OUR FANTASTIC FIELD On our field, we grow vegetables and fruit. We carry out sporting activities. We look after the wildlife with our great pond and wonderful trees. We relax, have fun and play. We have a Forest School Area. We have the beginnings of a wildflower area.

OUR FIELD

EARLY YEARS THROUGH TO THE INFANT PLAYGROUND Leaving the field, we will walk through the Early Years area. Outdoor learning is very important in Foundation Phase and along with the sand and digging areas, the children have a small pond, a green space and a lovely tree for shade. We will then move onto the Infant Playground and take a look at the Little Treasures growing beds waiting to be harvested. The lettuce is the second sowing! Year 2 have planted up their three raised beds. One bed is planted up with alpines for a gravel bed. Another bed has bedding in coloured red, white and blue to celebrate the jubilee. Prior to this they had some wonderful lettuce which they sold and made £8. You will at this point come to the end of your journey in 20 minutes. We hope you have enjoyed our space as much as we enjoy it. Thank you for visiting.
