Introduction to Engineering 3-D Sketch from Multi-view Process for making an isometric sketch given a multi-view drawing

Multi-View to Isometric General Approach  Identify H, W, & D of an object  Lightly sketch box with dimensions H, W, D  Cut away material you don’t need See Video

Tips for Making Isometric Sketches For more complex objects, try 1.Identifying the types of surfaces on the object a)Principal b)Inclined c)Oblique 2.Labeling the vertices and using the coordinates of the vertices to draw the isometric

Surface Type A: Principal Surface True size in one view Edge (line) in other 2 views Plane  Line 2,1 4,1 A ,2 3,4 Miter Line

Surface Type B: Inclined Surface  Characteristic shape in 2 views but not true size in either  Edge (line) in 3 rd view B ,1 3,2

Surface Type C: Oblique Surface  Characteristic shape in all 3 views but true size in none C Q: In which views could you get the true length of edges of this oblique surface? 1 to 2 1 to 3 3 to 2

General Procedure 1.Step 1 - sketch the box for isometric view 2.Step 2 - identify type of each surface of object 3.Step 3 - draw surfaces on pictorial 4.Step 4 - compare views and pictorial 5.Step 5 - inspect views to see what material is “carved away” from the box. 6.Step 6 - complete pictorial
