The trapezius is elevated off the scapular spine, and the supraspinatus (SS) is retracted inferiorly and posteriorly, revealing the transverse scapular ligament (TSL), suprascapular artery (SSA), and suprascapular nerve (SSN). The suprascapular nerve (SSN) is retracted with a blunt instrument while the transverse scapular ligament (TSL) is sharply divided, with care taken to protect the suprascapular artery (SSA)96,105.
