The subway / train system in Sydney is a great way to get around the area. Here is an entry to one of the subways.

Nice skylights in some of the stations made the stations nice and airy.

Some stations had long escalators to take you down to low levels. This is half of the depth— another escalator took you further down.

Once you descended on the escalator (or used the elevator), the area for buying tickets was clean. This is a suburb station, so not as many people as in a downtown station.

The area for boarding the subway. Oddly enough, there were never any trash barrels…and almost never any trash people had left behind.

Subway trains were fast, smooth, quiet, and timely.

Hornsby was a suburb north of Sydney.

Cars were clean and quiet. Only periodic checks of tickets were made by officials. A few seats were at the level of entry; most of the seating was upstairs or downstairs.

A shot of tracks downtown— sometimes the trains stopped underground and sometimes they stopped above ground.

We bought a week-long combo pass: unlimited train, bus, subway, and ferry rides for $100. We got our money’s worth!

Sometimes, in rural areas, you had to cross over the tracks to get to the train going the opposite direction.

Modernized trains had cool looking cars for the drivers.

One of the stops downtown had a great view of part of the harbor and of the Harbor Bridge. Made it nicer when waiting for our next train to come.

Information was displayed very nicely—where the train was going, when it would depart, how many cars, and what stops.

Billboards were sparse, but nice. The subway stations were not decorated like we saw in Russia or other places.

The system is extensive and getting around easy. Judy reads, waiting for a train— Circular Quay was where the ferries in the harbor were.
