Presentation transcript:

By: Fiona Caroline and Sonny

 Amir lands in Peshawar and travels by taxi to meet Rahim Khan in his old home in Afghanistan.  Amir and Rahim catch up on what has been going on  Amir notices that Rahim is ill and dying  In Afghanistan, the Alliance had destroyed Baba’s orphanage, and caused so many problems that this new group, the Taliban, took over

 Now, the Taliban had come and people celebrated their arrival in hopes for a better future, however they were naive to the fact that the Taliban is violent and destructive themselves  Amir wants Rahim to go to a doctor and get better, but Rahim accepts his illness but is not going to surrender.  While Rahim was living in Baba’s home, Hassan was living with him also.

 “We’re a melancholic people, we Afghans, aren’t we? Often, we wallow too much in ghamkhori and self-pity. We give in to loss, to suffering, accept it as a fact of life, even see it as necessary. Zendagi migzara, we say, life goes on.”  This quote is significant because it kind of describes how Amir acts. Also Baba gives into his sickness and accepts the fact that he is dying, just as Rahim Khan does.

 Secrets: In the chapter, Rahim Khan begins to reveal many secrets towards Amir that are later dealt with in the book. Secrets occur a great amount throughout the book, and this chapter is the beginning of all of them. - page 202 Amir finds out that Hassan has been living with Rahim Khan all these years
