Chico Vive The Legacy of Chico Mendes and the Global Grassroots Environmental Movement
Chico Mendes was a Brazilian rubber tapper
In the 1980s he warned the world about the fate of the Amazon rainforest
He was killed in 1988
25 years later his friends wanted to commemorate his life and work
We also want to promote the worldwide movement that follows his example
It includes indigenous people …
City people …
Rural people …
All are grassroots environmentalists
The Chico Vive conference will bring them together in one place at one time
April 4-6, 2014 American University School of International Service Washington, D.C.
Grassroots activists will meet their allies
And make plans for future collaboration and action
A mini film festival will inform and inspire conference participants
We need your support
Help us make the Chico Vive conference happen!
