Survival of the Unit Rates, Fraction Ratios, and the Amazon Rainforest of course!

Concept Map Update Use the pieces of the concept map puzzle to sort information you know and information you will learn. Complete the examples of the information that you know.

Vocabulary! Scale Factor: a ratio between two sets of measurements Unit Rate: a comparison of two measurements in which one of the terms has a value of 1

Unit Rates with Speed

Fractions and Unit Rates with Speed

Unit Rates with Price

Fractions and Unit Rates with Price Example: In case you get caught in a mosquito swarm, you will want to be wearing insect repellant. Off Deep Woods Repellant costs 3/16 of a dollar per ¼ of an oz. Cutter Repellant costs 1/3 of a dollar for every 5/12 of an oz. Which is the better buy and why? Better Buy! It costs less per oz!

More Unit Rates

Application! A caiman can travel ¼ of a mile in ½ of a minute. An anaconda can travel 1/12 of a mile in ¼ of a minute. A human can travel 1/10 of a mile in 1/3 of a minute. Would a human running at this speed be able to outrun either animal? Rate of Caiman: ½ mile per minute Rate of Anaconda: 1/3 mile per minute Rate of Human: 3/10 mile per minute *No!!! A human could not outrun either animal!

Scavenger Hunt Directions: 1)Pick one scavenger hunt problem on the wall to start at. Solve the problem on the lower half of the sheet. 2)When you have your answer, look around on the walls until you find your answer on the top of a different scavenger hunt problem. 3)Solve the problem on the lower half of the sheet. 4)Repeat unit you are back at the paper with which you started.
