BIG IDEA 1 Peter 2:13-17 Voluntarily acknowledge and accept every authority God has placed in your life… including the government. What does it mean? Why is it so important? How do we act upon this?

1 Peter 2: Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.

What does it mean? Voluntarily acknowledge and accept every authority God has placed in your life… including the government. Submission means to recognize and voluntarily accept the demands/laws of government authorities. There are exceptions. Submission does not diminish personhood.

Why is it so important? Voluntarily acknowledge and accept every authority God has placed in your life… including the government.

Why is it so important? Voluntarily acknowledge and accept every authority God has placed in your life… including the government. God works through human government. Our behavior can influence others. Voluntary submission demonstrates Christian freedom.

1 Peter 2:16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Romans 6:16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

How do we act upon this? Voluntarily acknowledge and accept every authority God has placed in your life… including the government.

1 Peter 2:17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. Daniel & Life During the Babylonian Captivity (Jeremiah 29:4-7)

BIG IDEA 1 Peter 2:13-17 Voluntarily acknowledge and accept every authority God has placed in your life… including the government. How am I doing with this whole thing of submission to authority? How am I responding to situations where submission to government is in tension with biblical teaching about morality?
