Motivation is something that causes a person to act.

In Proverbs we find some basic concepts that will be of help to us:

knowledge is in my head, information-what I know

understanding is in my heart, revelation-what I believe

wisdom is in my hand, application-what I do

outcome is in my life, transformation-who I am

If our goal is to be transformed into the image of Christ, then our study on discipleship is the way to that goal.

Shakespeare takes a sheet of worthless paper, writes on it and turns it into a piece of timeless literature- that’s called genius.

Ferrari takes a few kilograms of metal, paints it red and turns it into a dream- that’s called skill.

Rockefeller takes a blank strip of paper, signs his name on it and turns it into a fortune- that’s called wealth.

Michelangelo takes a dirty chunk of marble, sculptures it and turns it into a masterpiece-that’s called art.

God takes a useless, sinful life, washes it in the blood of His Son, puts His Spirit in it and turns it into His home of love - that’s called love.

John 14:21 “Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me.

Those who love me will have my Father's love, and I, too, will love them and show myself to them.”

1. Our love for Jesus is demonstrated in our obedience to Him.

True love is more than a bunch of words.

2. Our obedience to Jesus is an outgrowth of our love for Him. John 14:23

Jesus answered him, "Those who love me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and my Father and I will come to them and live with them.

The love of the Father precedes our love (1 John 4:19 “We love because God loved us first.”) but it also follows our return of love to Him!

3. Our love for Jesus causes obedience to be possible.

1 John 5:3 “For our love for God means that we obey his commands. And his commands are not too hard for us.”

As disciples of Jesus we are called to be reservoirs of love that overflow onto all that are around us.

If we are going to keep our reservoir of love full, then we have to be constantly seeking to be around Jesus and to be filled with the greatness of His love for us.

Then and then only will we be able to see even the worst of people through the eyes of Jesus. the eyes of love

Luke 6:45 “A good person brings good out of the treasure of good things in his heart; a bad person

brings bad out of his treasure of bad things. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

So let’s put some love for Jesus up in our hearts!

Love Him by spending time with Him daily

Love Him by praising and thanking Him.

Love Him by allowing Him to love you.

Love Him by paying close attention to His things daily.

Love Him as your FIRST LOVE.

Remember Jesus’ question for Peter, “Do you love me?”
