FP7, ICT-2011 – 5.3 Page 2 Scenario Linked2Safety Architecture Mapping and Aligning the Data Exposing and Requesting

FP7, ICT-2011 – 5.3 Page 3 The clinical expert (from an institute) decides that she wants to expose a dataset First step: to align data structure it to the Linked2Safety common schemas in a secure (isolated from network connection) room in institute's premises After the production of aggregated data (data cubes) she transfers them to the public access room Another medical expert (who has access to Linked2Safety) requests data cubes with specific dimensions The received data cubes are used as input to data analysis algorithms

FP7, ICT-2011 – 5.3 Page 4 Linked2Safety Architecture Schema Alignment And Transformation Tool (authorized clinician) Create mappings to a common schema Perform the transformation Create the data cube from the aligned data RDFized the cube Annotation and Enrichment Tool (authorized clinician) Provide more annotations upon RDF cube Assign Access Policies upon data cube Store data cube in RDF Triplestore Galaxy Platform via Browser(other medical expert) Request data cubes by dimensions Perform data analysis upon them Or Create workflow of complex analysis

FP7, ICT-2011 – 5.3 Page 5 Install "Schema Alignment and Transformation" software to a USB stick. Insert USB stick to a computer that has initial data (in the format of EXCEL files) located in the local hard disk. This computer (named "closed-world computer") should be operated by a clinician only, and the computer should have no access to Internet at all. Perform mappings using the Schema Mapping tool. Create the data cubes via the Transformation software (inside the "Schema Alignment and Transformation" software). The produced RDF data cubes are stored in the USB stick. Eject the USB stick and transfer it (it contains only the software and the data cubes) the compute that will serve as a "public-room computer". Load the data cube at the triple store that is installed there.

FP7, ICT-2011 – 5.3 Page 6 Exposing and requesting (Medical Expert) A medical expert starts a browser and go to the Galaxy Web server Perform a query via the Query Interface. After the data cube is loaded, select an algorithm and execute it.
