7 TH AND 8 TH GRADE ORIENTATION Vista Charter Middle School

Welcome to Vista Charter Middle School VISTA STUDENTS HAVE POWER IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THEIR IDENTITIES. THEY CREATE THE VISION OF WHO THEY ARE, THE PATH THEY CHOOSE IN LIFE, AND THE REASON WHY. THEY ARE CRITICAL CONSTRUCTORS OF KNOWLEDGE IN AN EVER CHANGING AND INTERCONNECTED SOCIETY. THEIR LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT IS CONSTRUCTED AND FOSTERED IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT FOCUSES UPON INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS, NEEDS AND DESIRES THROUGH A DIFFERENTIATED APPROACH.

Vista Charter Middle School…  Opened its doors in 2010  Received its WASC accreditation in 2013  Is a small learning community focused on providing the best education for all of our students.

Student Responsibilities  Be on time  Do his/her homework everyday  Ask for help when they don’t understand  Read for at least minutes every night  Committing to a bully-free school  Respect adults, peers and school property (Chrome book)

Parents, we ask you to…  Be involved in our school  Parents are asked to volunteer 20 hours per year  Ensure your child is in school on time everyday  Ensure your child is wearing the proper uniform  Students must wear Vista Sweaters ONLY  Students must tuck-in their polo shirts  Support by asking your child what they learned in school  Check your child’s planner and check their homework  Students must read for at least minutes every night

School Responsibilities  Provide a safe learning environment  Monitor students’ progress in their Personal Learning Plans  Course assessments  School assessments are every 3 weeks  Quarterly assessments are every 9 weeks  Provide parents access to staff through , phone calls, personal conferences, etc.  Providing volunteer opportunities for parents  Offering students access to technology  Prepare our students for high school, college and beyond!
