The Story of a Son

Isaiah 7:14 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Luke 1:28 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

The Story of a Son Matthew 21:1-9 Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King 21 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

The Story of a Son Matthew 21:1-9 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

The Story of a Son Psalm 24: The earth is the L ORD ’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the L ORD ? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the L ORD and vindication from God their Saviour. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.

The Story of a Son Psalm 24: Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The L ORD strong and mighty, the L ORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory? The L ORD Almighty— he is the King of glory.

The Story of a Son 1 Kings 1:5 5 Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

The Story of a Son 1 Kings 1:43-47 “Our lord King David has made Solomon king. 44 The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Kerethites and the Pelethites, and they have put him on the king’s mule, 45 and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon. From there they have gone up cheering, and the city resounds with it. That’s the noise you hear. 46 Moreover, Solomon has taken his seat on the royal throne. 47 Also, the royal officials have come to congratulate our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon’s name more famous than yours and his throne greater than yours!’

The Story of a Son Zechariah 9:9 The Coming of Zion’s King 9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey

The Story of a Son Revelation 19: I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

The Story of a Son Psalm 118:15-29 Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: “The L ORD ’s right hand has done mighty things! 16 The L ORD ’s right hand is lifted high; the L ORD ’s right hand has done mighty things!” 17 I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the L ORD has done. 18 The L ORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. 19 Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the L ORD. 20 This is the gate of the L ORD through which the righteous may enter. 21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.

The Story of a Son Psalm 118: The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; 23 the L ORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 The L ORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. 25 L ORD, save us! L ORD, grant us success! 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the L ORD. From the house of the L ORD we bless you. 27 The L ORD is God, and he has made his light shine on us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar.

The Story of a Son Psalm 118: You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God, and I will exalt you. 29 Give thanks to the L ORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
