Luke 4:14-21 14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. 16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: 18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour." 20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Theme

and to proclaim release for prisoners (& the oppressed) Jesus’ Task - Our Task The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour. The Spirit of the Lord is on me, to proclaim good news to the poor (& sight for the blind), and to proclaim release for prisoners (& the oppressed)

Good news to the poor (& sight to the blind) Luke 6:20-22 "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Luke 7:22 Report to John “The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.” Luke 14:13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind Luke 18:35 Blind man of Jericho said “I want to see” Luke 19:3,8 Jesus looked up to Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus said “I give half of my possessions to the poor” (unlike two rich people in Luke 16 and 18) Luke 21:2-3 Jesus said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others”. The Spirit of the Lord is on me, to proclaim good news to the poor (& sight for the blind), and to proclaim release for prisoners (& the oppressed)

Release to captives & crushed Luke 11:4 Forgive our sins for we forgive those who are indebted to us Luke 13:11-13 A woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. Jesus said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Luke 23:34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Luke 23:39-43 The other criminal said “We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong. Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” Matt 27:50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. The Spirit of the Lord is on me, to proclaim good news to the poor (& sight for the blind), and to proclaim release for prisoners (& the oppressed)
