 God told Elijah to go before Ahab  Who was Obadiah?  Ahab’s palace Administrator – He was a devout believer in God.  Obadiah hid 100 prophets of God in caves  Elijah told Obadiah to tell Ahab to meet him  People from all over Israel were to meet him on Mt. Carmel  Bring 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah

 Call on your god – called until noon  Elijah began to make fun – maybe he is thinking, busy, traveling, or sleeping  They cut themselves with swords and spears  Time of the evening sacrifice – so ALL day

 Took 12 stones – one for each tribe  Dug a trench – able to hold about 24 lbs  Fill 4 large jars – filled them 3 times  Fire from God burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil – also licked up all the water  Took the prophets off the mountain into the Kishon Valley and slaughtered them there  Elijah went back on top of the mountain to look for the approaching rain  7 times he asked his servant – do you see any hint of rain?  7 th time – I see a small cloud

 Heavy rain and ran ahead of Ahab back to Jezreel – 17 miles  Ahab told his wife – Jezebel – what had happened to her prophets  She said – that she was going to kill Elijah  He was scared and ran for his life  Went a day’s journey into the wilderness – sat down and rested – angel provided food for him  Went another 40 days and nights until he reached Horeb – 2,370 miles – same as Mt. Sinai
