Valuation of the current situation 12 th Annual Workshop for NCs, , Antalya, Turkey

SWOT analysis (1) STRENGTHS:WEAKNESSES: The ERFP is established and well recognised. ERFP has developed strong links between NCs. ERFP has developed strong links with FAO, EAAP, EU. ERFP are able to respond very quickly to EU demand. ERFP has a light structure without red tape, no need for higher management approval. ERFP has launched 11 projects in various domain of AnGR ERFP has developed 2 programmes in the frame of EU regulation 870/04. ERFP web site exists Good position of ERFP in AnGR cryopreservation approach. ERFP is not well-known, no reputation ERFP has a small staff and is even disconnected from others NCs. NCs have only 10% of their time to work in the frame of AnGR. Some countries have no official NC. The role of NCs in their countries is not well recognised. ERFP is vulnerable to one country decision. ERFP has not a permanent funding system. ERFP has not yet a database on AnGR ERFP has not established a clear situation with EAAP WG-AnGR. Lack of competitive strength. 12 th Annual Workshop for NCs, , Antalya, Turkey

SWOT analysis (2) OPPORTUNITIES:THREATS: The management of AnGR and conservation of biodiversity is an issue that attracts the attention of politicians / experts and the society. Some actions in the frame of EU regulation 870/04 are supported by EU. The new FP7 is being establishing by EU – DG research. FAO is finalising the SoW. FAO –ITWG-AnGr is postponed to December ERFP can be an example for others regions. Some countries ask for a more formal funding system. EFABIS is a step towards an integrated European database. New contacts and new work in collaboration with TAIEX EU New collaboration with European Environment Agency ERFP has not a substantial impact on EU policy. Not all the NCs have a substantial impact in the relevant structures of their own country working in the frame of AnGR. ERFP actions depend on FAO developments New EU regulations (like 870/04, 1750/99 etc..) Demands from EC, demands from developing countries and competitors vulnerabilities. Not flexibility to respond to new demands. Not well established interaction between EAAP- WGAnGR EFABIS is not yet adopted by NCs and countries Lack of Sustainable financial backing 12 th Annual Workshop for NCs, , Antalya, Turkey

Future Strategies and Workplan Role  More active role in the development of strategies related with AnGR - Enhance connection with EU Commission  Improve the involvement of NCs in ERFP activities  Strengthen their role in their countries ERFP is not well-known, no reputation ERFP has not a permanent funding system. Lack of competitive strength Role of NCs in country not well recognised Not substantial impact in the relevant structures 12 th Annual Workshop for NCs, , Antalya, Turkey

Future Strategies and Workplan Activities  Annual Workshop – Annual Report Include a technical meeting of the projects coordinators with the secretariat and the SC Include a session on proposals for future actions A country report more useful for communication with the public 12 th Annual Workshop for NCs, , Antalya, Turkey

Future Strategies and Workplan Activities  ERFP Website Continue to be hosted by BLE - New contract Further development as a useful tool for the work of NCs and other interested persons/bodies Organisation of a Workshop 12 th Annual Workshop for NCs, , Antalya, Turkey
