BAPTISM OF JOHN WAS IT FROM HEAVEN, OR FROM MEN? MATTHEW 21:23-27 (NIV) MARK 11:28-33 (NIV) LUKE 20:2-7 (NIV)

BAPTISM OF JOHN WAS IT FROM HEAVEN, OR FROM MEN? MATTHEW 21: When Jesus came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority? 24Jesus said to them, I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: 25The baptism of John-- where was it from? From heaven or from men? They reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, He will say to us, Why then did you not believe him?

BAPTISM OF JOHN WAS IT FROM HEAVEN, OR FROM MEN? MATTHEW 21: But if we say, From men, we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet. 27So they said to Him, We do not know. He said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

BAPTISM OF JOHN WAS IT FROM HEAVEN, OR FROM MEN? MARK 11: They said to Jesus, By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things? 29Jesus said to them, I also will ask you one question; then answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things: 30The baptism of John-- was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me.

BAPTISM OF JOHN WAS IT FROM HEAVEN, OR FROM MEN? MARK 11: They reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, He will say, Why then did you not believe him? 32But if we say, From men--they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed. 33So they said to Jesus, We do not know. And Jesus answered and said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

BAPTISM OF JOHN WAS IT FROM HEAVEN, OR FROM MEN? LUKE 20:2-8 2They said to Jesus, Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority? 3Jesus said to them, I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me: 4The baptism of John-- was it from heaven or from men?

BAPTISM OF JOHN WAS IT FROM HEAVEN, OR FROM MEN? LUKE 20:2-8 5They reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, He will say, Why then did you not believe him? 6But if we say, From men, all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. 7So they said they did not know where it was from. 8Jesus said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH? MARK 1:1-8 1The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2As it is written in the Prophets: Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You. 3The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight. 4John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH? MARK 1:1-8 6John was clothed with camel's hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7He preached, saying, There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. 8I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH MATTHEW 3:1-12 1In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2Saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! 3For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight. 4John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 6And were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. 7When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH MATTHEW 3:1-12 8Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9Do not think to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. Even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH LUKE 3:2-18 2While Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 3He went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, 4As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight. 5Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth; 6All flesh shall see the salvation of God.

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH LUKE 3:2-18 7He said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 9Even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 10The people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH LUKE 3: He said to them, He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise. 12The tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what shall we do? 13He said to them, Collect no more than what is appointed for you. 14Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, And what shall we do? So he said to them, Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.

WHAT DID JOHN PREACH LUKE 3: As the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not, 16John answered, I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire. 18With many other exhortations he preached to the people.

WHO WAS APOLLOS? ACTS 18: A certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25Apollos had been instructed in the way of the Lord. Being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27When he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28For he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.

INTO WHAT WERE YOU BAPTIZED? ACTS 19:1-5 1While Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2He said to them, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? So they said to him, We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit. He said to them, Into what then were you baptized? So they said, Into John's baptism. 4Then Paul said, John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
