The TRIPS Agreement 1995

“ Indications which identify a good as originating in the territory of a Member, or a region or locality in that territory, where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the good is essentially attributable to its geographical origin.”

The Ministry of Commerce & EPB introduced the concept of GIs in 2004.

The first GI organization Basmati GI application -2005

 The Industries, Commerce & Investment Department of Punjab assists 6 GI organizations since 2007  11 New Applications filed  All pending publication with the TMR
