Our Religious Festivals

Festival of Sacrifices This celebration is one of the two greatest festivals in the Muslim community around the world. The idea behind this celebration is to sacrifice( sheep, camel or cow), to have peace and to ask God forgiveness .

How we celebrate The first thing to do in this day is to pray. After the prayer every Muslim home is obliged to offer a sacrifice (sheep, goat, camel, cow or any other beast). Share the meat and food with the poor people. This is also a major holiday for Muslims to visit and give gifts to the children. Wearing nice clothes (new clothes are preferable).

WHAT TO EAT: Meat is important to eat because this celebration is about to sacrifice. WHAT NOT TO EAT OR DRINK: Pork is strongly prohibited in the Muslim society in any time. Alcohol is not allowed to drink too, but you can drink any other sort of drinks that can’t harm or stimulate your brain.

When we celebrate? Festival of Sacrifices is celebrated the 12th month of dhul hija, of the Muslim calendar. The celebration starts in the morning and continues to four days.

Why we celebrate? Following the foot steps of prophet Mohamed Muslims sacrifice and go to Mecca(pilgrimage) where Ibrahim slaughtered his only son(Ishmael)!. To worship Allah(God). It shows unity to the Muslim society around the world.

RAMADAN

The ninth month of Muslim calendar is Ramadan. During this month, Muslims fast from sunshine to sunset.

During this months, the people come together for dinner with their family and friends.

Some of the rich people or foundations organizes dinner for poor people.

Ramadan feast (also known as the Festival of Sweets) is celebrated at the end of this month.

It’s a three-day festival. On the first day everyone gets up early, wears their best clothes. They visit their relatives and neighbours starting from elder ones.

They give and take gifts and offer sweets, chocolates and baklava to each other.
