The Life Cycle of Animals Wanda is a Wonderer. Can you help her find the answers to her wonders?

“Wait a second,” says Wanda, “I wonder how what this big frog looked like as a baby?” “Well hello there, Mr. Frog. How are you today?” says Wanda. “Very Ribbit… and you?” Can you tell Wanda or do you wonder too? Click here to show Wanda the life cycle of a frog. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce5_Vk_yNcY

“Wow did you see that. ” cries Wanda “Wow did you see that!” cries Wanda. That was incredible, I wonder what that is called? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Can you tell Wanda what we call this process of change a frog undergoes? If you need help check this out http://kids.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/english/entry/metamorphosis

“Wow!” Says Wanda, “I wonder if any other animals go through a metamorphosis?” Can you help Wanda with her wondering? Do you know of another animal that goes through a metamorphosis? Check this out and see if it gives you any hints. http://www.kidzone.ws/animals/lifecycle.htm

Wow! I love butterflies, I wonder what their metamorphosis is like?” Can you describe a butterfly’s life cycle for Wanda? If you need some help check this out http://www.cocoon.org/ If you want to see the real thing click here http://www.follenderwerks.com/galleries/the_monarch_butterfly/monarch_anim.htm

“Wow, How beautiful. I wonder if I can remember all that?” says Wanda. How about you, can you remember the stages of the life cycles? Click here to try it http://teams.lacoe.edu/documentation/classrooms/judi/life/activities/cycles/life_cycles.html

Can you help her out, look at the list on the next slide for help.     Now Wanda starts wondering what it would look like if we compared many different animal’s lifecycles. “Hhhmmm,” she thought. I know what a frog and butterfly’s life cycle looks like I wonder about a spider’s, a shark’s, I wonder about a dragonfly or even a penguins life cycle is like?” Can you help her out, look at the list on the next slide for help.

“What about a butterfly?” Can you help Wanda label the life cycle of a butterfly? Stages __________________

If you need help check this link out. Click here Oh geez! Wanda is still wondering! “I wonder how long it takes for a frog to go through the life cylce,” wonders Wanda. Do you know? If you need help check this link out. Click here http://www.exploratorium.edu/frogs/mainstory/frogstory5.html

Do you know? Find out by clicking on the link below. Can you guess what Wanda is wondering now? You guessed it! “I wonder how long a butterfly’s life cycle is,” wonders Wanda. Do you know? Find out by clicking on the link below. http://www.lifeofabutterfly.com/

“Wow! You’re awesome! Thanks for all your help finding the answers to my wonders.” Be sure to record what you have learned in your science notebooks! Be sure to cite where you found your information. Draw and label a frog life cycle. Draw and label a butterfly life cycle. Note the length of time the stages take. Give three examples of other animal life cycles. Share your discovery with a friend!
