PHP 100—Pre-Health Professions Seminar 1 Credit Hour Spring 2010 I.COURSE DESCRIPTION This introductory course provides guidance for all students planning to seek admission to health professions schools such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, and physical therapy. The course is graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, earns one credit hour, and is especially designed for prehealth students to take early in their academic career (e.g. incoming freshman and transfer) and only once during their undergraduate program. ORU Health Professions Evaluations Personal characteristics of HP students evaluated by instructors from Intro. Biol., Gen. Chem., Organic Chem., Physics, upper division sciences, English, psychology and major departments which are then used to write a “weighted” committee (composite) letter.

What’s New 2009 – 2010 Separate School of Community Health interviews AMCAS Letters –Enables medical schools to receive all letters electronically via AMCAS –Enables applicants to have their authors send all letters to AMCAS (for participating schools) rather than to each school. This service is included in the AMCAS application fee.

Semi-blind Interview Process Still a 3 member interview team and about an hour, but divided into 2 parts: 1.“Semi-blind” portion of interview is conducted to assess communication, inter- personal skills, etc. No academic review. 2. Student dismissed 3. Interview team will review academics and then proceed with 2 nd academic interview. Chance to answer questions/discuss academic history, MCAT, etc.
