GIS - Geographic Information Systems “a computer system designed to allow users to collect, manage and analyze large volumes of spatially referenced information and associated attribute data”. “a computer based system used to input, store, retrieve, and analyze geographic data sets. The GIS is usually composed of map-like spatial representations called layers which contain information on a number of attributes such as elevation, land ownership and use, crop yield and soil nutrient levels” “A computerized system that provides advanced capabilities for the processing and interpretation of spatial information from the real world” “GIS is a "smart map" tool that allow users to create interactive queries (user created searches), analyze the spatial information, and edit data” INTEGRATION OF SPATIAL DATA & NON SPATIAL DATA

PROJECT DETAILS The Project is dealt in FOUR PHASES: Phase 1: Base map preparation. Phase 2: Property survey and utility mapping Phase 3: GIS application development. Phase 4: Web enabled GIS development

METHODOLOGY - I Review of existing system Geo-coding and Geo Collection of data available with Municipality, PHED etc. Procurement of high resolution Satellite data Geo-coding and Geo referencing of Satellite Imagery Base Map Preparation showing all Physical Features Generation of contour overlay at 1 m/0.5m interval Preparation of 1:1000 Maps for Field Verification Inc locality, ward, mun boundaries

PREPARATION OF UPDATED BASE MAP REQUIREMENTS High Resoultion satellite data with Physical Features and 1m/0.5m interval contour information Updated Maps and Records of Properties Infrastructure to develop a Customized GIS Package

SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT TO ACCOMPLISH Large scale base map covering entire municipal limit. GPS ground control survey for geo-coding & geo- referencing. 1m Contour maps for upland towns and 0.5m contour interval for coastal towns. Above data sets in softcopy format for easy integration with block boundaries, ward boundaries, etc.

Property information captured : plot area, plinth area, SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT …..CONTD…. Updated base maps. Property information captured : plot area, plinth area, property assessment numbers, land use, etc.. Utilities mapped: water supply, under ground drains, street lighting, roads, etc.. Application of GIS software H.R.D. Capacity Enhancement - awareness of GIS by municipal staff

Door numbering system We propose to conduct detailed study on the existing door numbering system in GHMC area provision of door numbers for vacant sites and a new simplified & rationale numbering system will be developed in consultation with GHMC Rust free steel number plates to the buildings with the given specifications of 10’ X 5’ MS pre coated 1mm thickness plate with letters in white and blue background colour. The vacant sites will also be given continuous number.

Existing System of House Numbering The present House Numbering System consists of Ward - Block - House number and the same is being followed since long. The house numbers are not in a continuous series. When a new house comes into existence in between the existing numbers, sub nos. and bye-numbers are given without any order, causing further confusion Entire GHMC will be divided into different blocks. Block boundaries will be drawn in such a way that the boundary is clearly identifiable on ground with reference to land marks. In the new system the entire city will be delineated into Localities and Main roads. The premises are numbered in the Localities and Main Roads separately in a continuous series. 5-digit Locality Code Number is proposed to be given for all the localities, where, first two digits represent Ward Number and the last three digits represent the Locality Number. Similarly all the Main roads are also given unique Code numbers for identification

Delineation of Localities GHMC 4/11/2017 Delineation of Localities Localities are proposed to be delineated in each ward, with the following parameters The locality is viable in terms of area and population and has distinct boundaries. The name of the area is prominent with reference to name of colony, Revenue Village, Post Office, GHMC Council ward etc. The Area is to delineated with reference to ward boundary, Broad Network of roads, Physical Boundaries like Watercourses, Drains, and Railway Lines etc. While delineating the areas smaller localities, colonies, slums that are locally known with reference to prominent locality name are included and comprehensive area is delineated.

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT Assignment of House Numbers Each premises built-up / open will be assigned with one number. Each Apartment / Commercial Complex will be assigned, with one general number. Each Flat / Shop / Unit will be assigned with by-numbers. Slums which are prone for changes will be assigned two or block wise numbers easy location the houses. Normally the numbering in a locality would start from the corner nearer to the city centre. The street that nearer to the city centre will be numbered as street number 1. Similarly numbering on main roads will be done from one end of the road to the other end and continue the series on the other side till the starting end. A locality may abut main road / roads where there will be separate series of numbers. Detailed locality plans will be prepared for all localities, main roads showing the locality boundaries, streets, lanes, premises with old and new numbers. House / Premises numbers displayed and street boards are fixed.
