Rubik’s Cube By, Logan Emmert

Ernő Rubik He created the Rubik’s Cube. Ernő is a Hungarian sculptor and professor in architecture. He was born in 1944 during WWII. Rubik invented the cube in the early 80s.

The Numbers Behind the Cube Type of cube: 2X23X34X45X56X67X7 Number of combinations: 3,174, ,252,003,2 74,489,856,0 00 7,401 septillion 283 tresvigi- ntillion 157 septentr igintillio n 19.5 duoquin quaginti llion Number of blocks: Popularity: ¼ of the world’s population has touched a rubik’s cube. Number of sides: Number of solutions:

Rotations There are 10 rotations while doing the 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube. R, R’, L, L’, U, U’, B, B’, F, F’. There are 20 rotations for a 4x4x4. All of the 3x3x3’s, and R*, R*’, L*, L*’, U*, U*’, B*, B*’, F*, F*’.

Algorithms “In mathematics, computing, linguistics, and related subjects, an algorithm is a finite sequence of instructions, an explicit, step- by-step procedure for solving a problem, often used for calculation and data processing.” – Quote from Wikipedia.org

Algorithms There are 5 algorithms for the 3x3x3 cube. Right algorithm: U, R, U’, R’, U’, F’, U, F. Left algorithm: U’, L’, U, L, U, F, U’, F’ Second Center: F, R, U, R’, U’, F’. Corners in the right places: U, R, U’, L’, U, R’, U’, L. Corners in the right position: R’, D’, R, D.

4x4x4 and 5x5x5 Rotations All of the 3x3x3 rotations plus: Rr, Ll, Rr’, Ll’, r, l, r’, l’. home/shop/1/pictures/productsimg/ big/53.jpg

4x4x4 and 5x5x5 Algorithms Use all of the 3x3x3 algorithms. Also uses: L’, R, U, F, U’, L. 7augwed0032en6.png

Parity Parity is the worst thing that can ever happen to a Rubik’s Cube. Example 
