REN Global Peering Pre-requisites

– To make the initiative sustainable there are some generic guidelines / strategies that must be accepted and adhered to by all participating partners. All major Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and other large content providers must be peered in region/locally and cannot be bridged across continents or RE peering partners networks. As Internet2 are (and the GEANT peering service plan to); use separate AS numbers for their Research and Commercial Peering Services networks, it is recommended that all RE peering partners must maintain 2 VRF’s (Routing tables) one for commercial peers and one for Research traffic. It is recommended that cloud infrastructure providers providing services to the community and that are approved under the Global Service Delivery (GSD) program or ie. Net+, will be carried in the research VRF and that there should be BGP communities used to allow NREN’s/customers to opt in or out.
