Presentation transcript:

We’ll be spending a few minutes talking about Quiz 2 on Sections that you’ll be taking the next class session, before you work on Practice Quiz #2 for the rest of the class hour.

Any questions on the Section 2.3 homework?

Quiz 2 covers sections 2.1 through questions; 50 minute time limit Taken in class, but via the online course web site Worth 60 points 1 attempt No calculators allowed Practice Quiz 2 should be taken at least 2-3 times before the quiz day: 15 questions; 50 minute time limit; can take it anywhere Worth 6 points Unlimited attempts, only best score counts Each time you take it, you will get a different set of questions, so the more times you take it, the more chances you’ll have of seeing all the types of questions that might be on the real quiz. Don’t use a calculator, since you can’t on the real quiz. REMEMBER: Come to the open lab in 203 if you need help. M – Th: 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Reviewing for Quiz 2

IMPORTANT: Be on time so you’re logged in and ready to go when I give you the password. Bring your –POWER CORD –ETHERNET CORD SHOW ALL OF YOUR WORK on the answer/worksheet provided so that we can award partial credit for partially correct work or typos.

Preparing for the Quiz: STEP 1. Take the Practice Quiz (under Assignments, Review for Quiz 2). The practice quiz has the same number of problems as the real quiz, and has similar problems and will give you a chance to see the difference between doing problems in a homework setting vs. a timed quiz with no “help” or “check answer” functions. Each time you take the practice quiz you’ll get a different set of questions (not just different numbers in the same questions), so taking it multiple times will make it more likely that you’ll have seem most of the types of problems that will be an the actual quiz.

–You can take the practice quiz as many times as you want, and the computer will generate new problems for you each time. –You don’t need a password to access the practice versions of tests and quizzes. –Your best practice quiz score WILL count a small percentage in your overall course grade. –After each try, you can review your quiz and see how to do the problems you got wrong. (Come to the open lab if you need help.)

Practice Test Tries Average Test Score Grade number of students 061 F C C A- 7 Why you should take advantage of the opportunity to take the practice versions of quizzes and tests:

Preparing for the Quiz: STEP 2. Review the homework from all four homework assignments using the “Gradebook” function: –Click on “Gradebook” menu button –Select “Homework” in Assignments heading at top

Go to desired HW section, select “Review” You can actually rework problems after the deadline has passed (to study for quiz, or to practice any problems you didn’t get to before the deadline) but it won’t change your grade

Preparing for the Quiz: STEP 3: Review your notes and/or the online lecture slides (available online in each Assignment folder).

Problems to review today: Teachers: Select problems to review based on your students’ needs.

Do any of you who have already started the Practice Quiz 2 have any questions you’d like to have explained?
