Today’s Character Counts Quote of the Day: Respect Thorsday, 10/16/14 I have no right, by anything I do or say, to demean a human being in his own eyes. What matters is not what I think of him; it is what he thinks of himself. To undermine a man's self-respect is a sin. – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Today’s agenda: Thorsday, 10/16/14 Stamp Problem Set 2.02 (1 – 12) –Solutions for the last couple… Notes Factoring “any” quadratic –Questions? Assignment Problem Set 2.03 (1 – 12) –Review, due tomorrow

What if the leading coefficient isn’t 1? Problem Set 2.02 # * 5

What if the leading coefficient isn’t 1? Problem Set 2.02 # * 20

What if the leading coefficient isn’t 1? Problem Set 2.02 # * -6

This method works for any factorable quadratic 1. Write the quadratic in standard form 2. Put [ a times c ] in the top of a “diamond puzzle”, and the linear coefficient in the bottom 3. Solve the diamond puzzle 4. Use the left and right numbers from the puzzle to rewrite the linear term 5. Factor by grouping (look for common factors twice)

When is a quadratic not factorable? Consider this quadratic: It seems that this quadratic is not factorable! Or is it…??? ? ? 1 1
