Purpose of the CAPI Menu System Prepares the tablet with provided information about interviewer, supervisor, and the cluster in which interviewer is working that day Automates launch of data collection application Enforces file naming convention

Starting The Interviewer's Menu On tablet selecting the Start menu in the top left hand corner to display the programs in the Start menu The order and list of the programs in the Start menu will vary depending on the tablet model Scrolling down the Start menu and selecting MICSCapi On the PC computer selecting CapiMenu.pff

Starting The Interviewer's Menu Before starting interviewing the tablet needs certain information including interviewer’s code and code of the cluster in which he/she is working. Complete this information at the start of the day, before arriving at the household to avoid causing a delay in starting the questionnaire.

Starting The Interviewer's Menu First, interviewer will be asked to select supervisor to identify your interviewing team Next, interviewer will be asked to select his/her own name and identify as the interviewer And finally, to enter the Cluster (Primary Sampling Unit) number Once this is completed, the Main Interviewer’s Menu will appear

Description of the Main Interviewer’s Menu

The first three options of the Main Interviewer’s Menu are all related to interviewing a household and reviewing the data for that household, and all lead to the same submenus. –Select 02 to start a new Household Questionnaire in a household not previously visited. –Select 03 when returning to a Household Questionnaire that is not yet finished (i.e. is still incomplete or has only been partially saved). –Select 04 when reviewing and/or modify a completed Household Questionnaire.

Description of the Main Interviewer’s Menu After select option 2, 3 or 4, a list of all the households assigned to the interviewer will appear.

Description of the Main Interviewer’s Menu The program will confirm that this is the household in which you wish to work Purpose: –add questionnaires to a cluster’s data file for that interviewer Actions –adds cases to file DATA\HCCCNNN.DAT where CCC is cluster number NNN is interviewer number

Starting the Individual Questionnaire There are two ways to start an Individual interview. –One is after completing the Household Questionnaire –The other, is to start an Individual Questionnaire from the Main Interviewer’s Menu

Starting the Individual Questionnaire

Option 1 to start a new interview with the individual Option 2 to revisit the individual Option 3 to review or modify the data for this individual

Description of the Main Interviewer’s Menu Option 01: –Change the Cluster (Primary Sampling Unit) number. Option 11: –Select option 11 to be taken to the Utilities Menu below. Option 12: –Exit the MICS Interviewer’s Menu system and return to Windows.

Utilities Menu 1.Transfer data for all questionnaire for one cluster from the interviewer to the supervisor 2.Share household data for one Cluster with other interviewers – this option is used when a different interviewer conducts the individual interview from the person conducting the household interview 3.Receive household data from other interviewers – this option is used by the person receiving the household data before conducting an individual interview

Utilities Menu 4.Modify IDs/delete individuals – this option can be used to correct problems with IDs in data files, for example, when –Data was entered in the wrong cluster number. –The wrong household number was used. –The wrong individual’s line number was used when collecting the individual interview –The wrong interviewer code was used when entering the system 5.Receive system updates from the supervisor 6.Receive household assignment from the supervisor 9. Return to Main Menu
