Better Grades Better Concentration Better Health We know good nutrition is tied to better concentration in class, better grades and better health Hungry Kids Cannot Learn 3

Health Eating + Academic Achievement 4

Committed Board SFUSD’s Board of Education has a long standing commitment to promoting good eating habits and providing access to high quality nutritious food Vision Investments Student-centered policies Partnerships 5

Student Centered Vision Platform that enables community to connect with SFUSD’s school food program in multiple ways. Describes our vision, provides project updates, volunteer opportunities, and a donation platform. 6

IGNITING A HEALTHY FOOD REVOLUTION IN SFUSD 7

Freshly Prepared Healthy Food In 2012, Board of Education issued an Invitation for Bid that called for fresh, healthy food with detailed and high food standards – All meals had to be freshly prepared and tasty – Meet or exceed USDA requirements, including no nitrates or nitrites in our meats, no high fructose corn syrup – Standards were informed by community leaders, including Department of Public Health, and parents Revolution Foods was the lowest bidder to meet the standards set forth in our Invitation for Bid 8

Combining onsite meal preparation with Revolution Foods fresh and healthy meals 9

A Combined Approach SFUSD has partnered with Revolution Foods since January 2013; we collaborate to offer a healthy menu that appeals to our diverse student population Having Revolution Foods take care of producing the majority of our fresh meals allows Student Nutrition Services to focus on increasing the daily impact of our meal program The Board of Education has invested in SFUSD’s meal program for over a decade; shifting to a fresh meal program has helped increase the number of children eating school meals 10

Positive impact on: Students Families School staff and leaders 11

“ 1616 This is the best thing that has happened to my kids in the history of their public education.” Ellen, parent of two 4 th graders, SFUSD’s Fairmount Elementary School 12

“Finally we can feel proud about encouraging the kids to eat school lunch. And they like it too!” Emily Romo, Paraprofessional, SFUSD’s Sunset Elementary School 13

In Closing Students are with us more than six hours a day for over a decade of their lives To strengthen academic performance we must provide access to high quality nutritious food Not an expense, it’s an investment in the long- term health and wellbeing of our students and our community Motivated Board of Education and strong partnerships make it possible! 14
