County Government of Siaya MDG5 and…..

Current maternal daeths MD -246 MMR - 691

Strategic and annual targets Reduce maternal deaths by 15% by 2015 Increasing skilled deliveries from 62% to 75% The number of expectant women is per year and Siaya skilled delivery is currently 23202(62%).

MAJOR BOTTLENECKS/CHALLENGES Staff shortage especially technical staff in addressingMDG5e.gSurgeon,Gynea/Obstetricians anaesthetist, midwives etc. Inadequate equipment for maternal Health Out of the 155 Health facilities s only 3 can offer Comprehensive Emergency obstetric care i.e Siaya County Referral Hospital, Bondo Sub county Referral& Yala Sub county Hospital. The remaining 152 can only offer the Basic Emergency Obstetric care & some just partially.

MOST CRITICAL OPPORTUNITY Active engagement of the 2148 CHWs in the 190 Community units

KEY INTERVENTIONS. The County Government of Siaya will pay all the CHWs a Stipend of 2500 per month (Money already allocated) The county has already finalized a referral strategy document and will be launched soon. The Family Planning strategic plan Final draft ready, awaiting publishing and launching County Integrated and investment plan developed and currently on second year of implementation

WAY FOREWARD The county Government intends to recruit and employ 68 critical staff in health Engaging partners in bridging equipment/commodity gap Training of Health staff to offer BEOC/EOC Timely review of maternal deaths and provide mentorship where necessary
