sin

The Gospel Message: Part 1: You're a sinner and you cannot help yourself Part 2: God loves sinners and has sent a Savior on our behalf

2 Peter 1:2 – “I am writing to all of you who share the same precious faith we have, faith given to us by Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, who makes us right with God.”

A DMIT you are a sinner B ELIEVE in Jesus Christ C OMMIT your life to him

3 As we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life. He has called us to receive his own glory and goodness! 4 And by that same mighty power, he has given us all of his rich and wonderful promises. He has promised that you will escape the decadence all around you caused by evil desires and that you will share in his divine nature.

v.3 – “his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life”

“Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received!

We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust.”

v.5 - “So make every effort to apply the benefits of these promises to your life. Then your faith will produce a life of moral excellence.”

Continued and consistent spiritual growth is not automatic.  It requires cooperation with God and the application of spiritual diligence and discipline

Continued and consistent spiritual growth is not automatic.  if I don’t make every effort, I may not experience the full benefits of these promises for my life

Now add to your faith:  Goodness – live a live or moral excellence and integrity  Knowledge – continuing our pursuit to know and understand God and His Word  Self-control – controlling our emotions, our actions, and our reactions

Now add to your faith:  Perseverance – standing firm when it is difficult  Godliness – seeking to respond to life in God honoring ways  Kindness – treating people with respect and kindness and patience  Love – sincere love demonstrated through actions, not just words
