Let Us Remember… A Prayer of Lasallians in Association

Let Us Remember That We Are In The Holy Presence of God… Prayer Opening Used Since the 1600’s A Reminder

Origins Significant Part of De La Salle’s Spirituality Included in the First Rule One of the “Interior Supports of the Institute” Reinforced in the Daily Community Schedule

First Step in Any Prayer: Remember the Presence of God Six Ways God is Present: – In a Place Because God is everywhere In the community gathered in God’s name – In Ourselves God sustains us in existence By grace and the Holy Spirit – In Church As the house of God In the Blessed Sacrament

The Presence of God De La Salle was especially attentive to the presence of God in persons – In the educators themselves – Especially in the students entrusted to their care – In the relationship between educator and student

Let Us Remember That We Are In The Holy Presence of God… An Invitation… – To put God at the center of all that goes on in a school… Principal’s office Faculty/staff meetings Classroom Playing field Board room Main Concourse at La Salle High School Milwaukie, Oregon

What Does the Prayer Mean? One Phrase at a Time

Let Us Remember… Us – we do all things together – as a community Remember – implies that we have forgotten something – true! What is it that we wish to remember? Inscription on a classroom building at Saint Mary’s School for Boys in Nyeri, Kenya

We Are In The Holy Presence… We – community again! Are – not something we manufacture – it already is! Holy – awesome – special – sacred Presence – a personal presence – a relationship exists and is being renewed

The Holy Presence of God…. God – how does De La Salle describe God? – Wise – Serene – Loving – Desires the Salvation of All People – Calls us – Invites us – to Participate in the Salvation of All

Remembering the Holy Presence of God An Invitation to Reflect… – Who is God – for me? – Who is God – for us? – Who is God – for the students entrusted to our care?

Let Us Remember That We Are In The Holy Presence of God… As a Prayer Opening – Not to be used to call a group to order… – Requires time in silence to do what it is asking us to do – to remember! – Feel free to make it more specific…

It’s Not Just About Us… Every experience of prayer depends on us Every experience of prayer also depends on God’s initiative and action And so, together – with God – we remember the source of our being and the source of our call to be Lasallian.
