Second Chances… Abraham accepts a Second Chance

Have You Ever Heard the Phrase…. “I Have No Regrets”

If we’re honest, all of us have some regrets….

…the type we Get …the type we Give Two types of Second Chances… …the type we Get …the type we Give

Abraham… Abraham’s wife is Sarai and he has a brother as well as a father at the time Gen. 11:27 God is clear on what He wants Abraham to do… The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. Gen. 12:1

Abraham… God makes a promise to Abraham… “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. Gen. 12:2-3

we get tripped up the same way Us and Abraham… …we all have families …God is clear what He wants from us …God makes us promises we get tripped up the same way

Look at it this way…

Abraham’s Door Buster… As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.” Gen. 12:11-13

Abraham’s Door Buster… When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that she was a very beautiful woman. And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace. He treated Abram well for her sake… Gen 12:14-16

Abraham’s Door Buster… But the LORD inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai. So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!” Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had. Gen. 12:17-20

Door Busters Always cause damage…

Abraham’s Door Buster #2… Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; so she said to Abram, “The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her.” Abram agreed to what Sarai said. Gen. 16:1-2

Abraham’s Door Buster #2… …When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me.” “Your servant is in your hands,” Abram said. “Do with her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her. Ge 16:5-6

Abraham’s Second Chance… The LORD appeared to Abraham… Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. …tree. “Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him. “There, in the tent,” he said. Then the LORD said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Gen. 18:1-2, 9-10

Abraham’s Second Chance Delivered… Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Gen. 21:1-2, 5
