A PARASITE IS A LIVING THING... What is a Parasite? A PARASITE IS A LIVING THING...

...that TAKES benefits from others...

...AND TAKES...

...AND TAKES...

... WITHOUT GIVING BACK IN RETURN.

You’re Now Taking, Taking, Taking DEPENDENT ON OTHERS FOR BASIC HUMAN NEEDS... ... CLOTHING ... ... FOOD ... ... SHELTER ... ... KNOWLEDGE... ... SAFETY...

YOU CANNOT GIVE WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE IT’S STILL OK BECAUSE YOU CANNOT GIVE WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE

WHEN YOUR TIME FOR TAKING IS OVER, BUT ONE DAY... WHEN YOUR TIME FOR TAKING IS OVER, YOU MUST GIVE BACK OR BE A PARASITE.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS CLASS PROJECT? HELLO. THIS IS NOT JUST A PROJECT.

BEGINS. THIS IS FOR YOU TO PREPARE YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY WHEN YOUR TIME FOR GIVING BACK BEGINS.

WHEN WILL YOU GIVE BACK TO SOCIETY? PRESENT 2012 GIVING BACK 2016 PAST FUTURE 2056 VERY SOON.

SOMETHING FROM YOURSELF What is a Contribution? THIS IS WHEN YOU GIVE SOMETHING FROM YOURSELF TO ADD TO A GREATER GOOD

SOMETHING FROM my SELF TO ADD TO THE GREATER GOOD

FROM my SELF NOT FROM OTHERS. my OWN self my OWN mind my OWN effort A contributor is the OWN-er of something that adds value to benefit others. A parasite is one who benefits from another without adding value for others.

TO ADD means TO GIVE TO INCREASE TO IMPROVE

FOR THE GOOD OF THE GREATER NUMBER TO THE GREATER GOOD means FOR THE GOOD OF THE GREATER NUMBER TO BENEFIT MANY OTHERS TO HELP SOCIETY

How Do We Contribute? ADD IMPROVE CREATE modify revise adapt correct INVENT revise correct SYNTHESIZE

WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS Coming up are six yellow boxes like this. WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS Press the pause key on your video player. Answer the question before continuing the presentation. This is to help you understand and remember.

Add One who copies old ideas is a parasite – taking from others and not adding new value. One who adds new elements into old ideas is contributing something new. WHY IS THIS THE ACTION OF A PARASITE? WHY IS THIS NOT BEING A PARASITE? QUESTION: WHEN IS IT OK TO USE THE IDEAS OF OTHERS?

Improve One who repeats the ideas of others is still a parasite: taking, using, benefiting without adding value. One who uses the ideas of others in a different way is contributing something new. WHY IS THIS THE ACTION OF A PARASITE? WHY IS THIS NOT BEING A PARASITE? QUESTION: WHEN IS IT OK TO USE THE IDEAS OF OTHERS?

How Do We Become Contributors? ADD IMPROVE CREATE COPY REPEAT STEAL How Do We Become Parasites?

IMPORTANT Acknowledge the source of an idea or element that is not yours or that you borrow from others. How? State where the source can be found or who the source is Why? This is the mark of a model scholar.

Create And perhaps ... sooner or later... You might come up with something totally new.

Use your imagination. Imagine specific action. Imagine benefits Imagine beneficiaries For example

Find an ordinary problem that you experience. Strategy 1: Find a Common Problem Find an ordinary problem that you experience. Missing pens, USBs, buttons, umbrellas? Broken shoes, bags, eyeglasses? Misplaced stuff? Lack of time? Create a unique, easy, cheap solution.

Choose any idea created by others. A laptop Soap Hair coloring Strategy 2: Add something new to the ideas of others Choose any idea created by others. A laptop Soap Hair coloring Add something new. An ethnic laptop cover? Soap leftovers into new soap? Black hair coloring in hair gel?

Combine old problems and solutions. Strategy 3: Add something new to old problems and solutions Combine old problems and solutions. Problem 1: tangled hair. Solution 1: plastic comb. Problem 2: irritated scalp Solution 2: scalp medication Contribute something new into that combination. Can a cheaper, softer comb prevent irritated scalp and save money on scalp medication?

To exercise your brain in combining different elements into creative solutions, see the presentation titled What is a Creative Topic?
