Objective: After this lesson students will be able to: Explain why preparation is important when carrying out scientific investigations in the lab in the field. Describe what you should do if an accident occurs. Identify safety icons and explain their meaning.

Safety During Investigations Good preparation helps you stay safe when doing science activities.

Preparing for the Lab Begin the day before Familiarize yourself with the directions/procedures. If anything is unclear, ask questions!

Performing the Lab Follow instructions exactly. Never try anything on your own without asking Ms. Galan first. Keep work area clean and organized. Don’t rush! Take your time!

End of Lab Procedures Clean-up your work area. Turn off and unplug any equipment that’s not being used. Throw away waste in it’s proper receptacle. Sharp objects do NOT go into the regular trash can! Wash your hands thoroughly!

General Safety Follow the specific instructions provided. Do not perform any investigations without Ms. Galan!
