Is Eating Blood Sinful? Is the eating of blood condemned or approved by Scriptures?

Introduction Practice across many cultures for thousands of years is eating of blood Is eating blood acceptable to God or forbidden by Him? Or, is eating blood a matter of personal opinion that is neither right or wrong?

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. Gen 9:2 "The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given.

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:3 "Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. Gen 9:4 "Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Gen 9:5 "Surely I will require your lifeblood; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man's brother I will require the life of man.

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:6 "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man. Gen 9:7 "As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it." Gen 9:8 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:9 "Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; Gen 9:10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth.

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:11 "I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth." Gen 9:12 God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations;

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:13 I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. Gen 9:14 "It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud,

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:15 and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. Gen 9:16 "When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth."

Covenant With Noah Still Applies Today Gen 9:17 And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth."

Eating Blood Forbidden Under Law of Moses Lev 17:10 'And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. Lev 17:11 'For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.'

Eating Blood Forbidden Under Law of Moses Lev 17:12 "Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, 'No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood.' Lev 17:13 "So when any man from the sons of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, in hunting catches a beast or a bird which may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth.

Eating Blood Forbidden Under Law of Moses Lev 17:14 "For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, 'You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.'

Reason For Eating Blood Being Forbidden Lev 17:11 'For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.'

Reason For Eating Blood Being Forbidden Deu 12:23 "Only be sure not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh. Deu 12:24 "You shall not eat it; you shall pour it out on the ground like water. Deu 12:25 "You shall not eat it, so that it may be well with you and your sons after you, for you will be doing what is right in the sight of the LORD.

False Teaching From Some In Jerusalem Act 15:1 Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved." Act 15:2 And when Paul and Barnabas had great dissension and debate with them, the brethren determined that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders concerning this issue.

Eating Blood Forbidden Under The New Covenant Act 15:19 "Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, Act 15:20 but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.

Eating Blood Forbidden Under The New Covenant Act 15:21 "For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath."

Eating Blood Forbidden Under The New Covenant Act 15:22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas-- Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren,

Eating Blood Forbidden Under The New Covenant Act 15:23 and they sent this letter by them, "The apostles and the brethren who are elders, to the brethren in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia who are from the Gentiles, greetings. Act 15:24 "Since we have heard that some of our number to whom we gave no instruction have disturbed you with their words, unsettling your souls,

Eating Blood Forbidden Under The New Covenant Act 15:25 it seemed good to us, having become of one mind, to select men to send to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, Act 15:26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Act 15:27 "Therefore we have sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will also report the same things by word of mouth.

Eating Blood Forbidden Under The New Covenant Act 15:28 "For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials: Act 15:29 that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell."

Eating Blood Forbidden Under The New Covenant Act 21:25 "But concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote, having decided that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication."

False Teaching Eating Blood Forbidden If Connected With Sacrificing To Idols Many insist that we can still eat blood today as long as the meat is not connected with sacrifices to idols But, we must remember fornication, sexual sin, is forbidden also Is fornication only forbidden if it is connected with worshipping idols? No, fornication, like eating blood, is forbidden because God says they are sinful
