ARTICLE V By: Jeremy, Julia, Corey, and Taylor

Main Idea of article v Article V talks about when the Congress or two thirds of both Houses propose an amendment to the Constitution If states want to pass new laws then two-thirds of the states must call for a convention to propose an amendment to the Constitution Ratification of the amendment can ONLY occur if three- fourths of the states agree No state can be deprived of the right to vote in Senate unless there is consent

How is this different from the Articles of Confederation? When Congress proposes a amendment or when two thirds of both Houses want to add an amendment. This demonstrates the concept of majority rules and the democratic principle of voting. On the application of the Legislatures two thirds of the several States must call a convention. Laws must be agreed upon by majority of the states. Then the mode of ratification will be proposed by Congress if only the Amendment does not affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the First Article prior to year one thousand eight hundred and eight and also that no state is deprived to be equal in the senate the Amendment is approved. The government could not govern efficiently because of a lack of power to force states to honor national obligations. Under the Articles of Confederation, Amendments must be agreed upon by ALL states. Under the Constitution, Amendments need the agreement by three-fourths of all states.

Constitutional Principles Republicanism- the belief that government should be based on the consent of the people Article V represents republicanism because of the votes needed to make the amendment be ratified Federalism – powers were divided between state and government powers granted to national government by constitution as known as delegated or enumerated powers Article V represents federalism because you need two thirds of the house of representatives to move on to the next part of the process which is three fourths of conventions for the amendment to be in the constitution.
