Landscape & Turf Division 1/6/03 Techline ® CV Making the best even better

Techline ® CV Techline CV is the next generation of dripperline in the Techline family It has been available internationally since 1999 Techline CV incorporates the best features of Techline and adds a check valve feature Techline CV’s check valve feature is the most important breakthrough in low volume technology since the introduction of dripperline

Techline ® CV Features: –Same operating characteristics as Techline: Pressure compensating Continuous self-flushing Works with all Techline fittings Can be buried in gardens, turf, clay or grass tennis courts, or used on-surface Physical root barrier Dripper is welded to the inside wall of the tubing –Improvements: Saves water by not allowing drainage on shut-down Check valve feature holds back a 4½’ column of water (2 psi closing pressure/14.7 psi opening pressure) Very large filter area for the dripper to capture water Protects the tubing from debris intrusion

Techline ® CV Check Valve Just as a check valve in a sprinkler: –Stops low head drainage, –Keeps laterals full of water, and –Allows the sprinklers to all start operating at the same time, The Techline CV internal check valve does the same thing Now you can enjoy the benefits of check valves on your dripperline In addition... There is another benefit to having a check valve built into every dripper

What Else Check Valves Do While many people don’t think about keeping dirty water from migrating back into the sprinklers and laterals, It is a major cause of sprinklers sticking-up due to grit, damaged riser stems, and no rotation This protective feature is also in Techline ® CV!

“Normally Open” Vs. “Normally Closed” Drippers Until now, dripperline drippers have been “normally open”. That means: –Water could flow out of the dripperline on zone shut-down, causing water waste and low drainage problems, –Water pressure in the soil (saturated or over-saturated soil) could force silt and clay-laden water (and debris) into the dripperline, –Long laterals could take additional time to “recharge” on turn-on as the tubing refilled with water, and –Air/vacuum relief valves were required

“Normally Closed” Drippers Techline ® CV uses a “normally closed” dripper. That means: –The dripper “shuts itself off” on zone shutdown –The diaphragm seals against the inlet hole of the dripper –This action: Keeps water in the dripperline from leaking out, Keeps outside water from entering via suction, Eliminates low area drainage issues, Zones, even with long laterals, and/or slopes, all begin operating at the same time, and No air/vacuum relief valves are required –So,

Irrigation systems using sprinklers with check valves have a higher uniformity and are superior to non-check valve sprinklers. The same is true for low volume systems with check valve drippers… Only Netafim offers this feature with Techline ® CV !

How Much Water Can You Save? Every foot of Techline ® CV holds gallons of water, therefore, Every 100’ holds 1.33 gallons To calculate actual water savings: –Multiply how many 100’s of feet of Techline CV you have on the project x 1.33 gallons –This will be the total amount of water not draining out on each irrigation. Then, –Multiply the gallonage above x the number of irrigation cycles annually –This will determine the total water saved

The Most Efficient Irrigation Product You’ve Ever Used? Consider: –The object of an irrigation system is even, balanced watering –Until now, overhead irrigating has always relied on factors that change minute-to-minute...Its ability to effectively throw water through the air, how much pressure there is, and how much water was available –Techline ® CV delivers the same amount of water from psi, it doesn’t lose water through the air, all the drippers come on at the same, and they all shut off at the same time –And once they shut-off, they stay off –Because of that,

Techline ® CV Is the Most Precise Irrigation Product Ever Developed

How Debris Can Be Pulled In - When Water Shuts Off, the Dripperline Empties, and Unless Properly Protected, Contaminants From the Surrounding Soil Can Be Drawn Into the Tubing Through the Drippers by Suction.

How Debris Can Be Pushed In - When Surrounding Soil Pressure Is Higher Than the Pressure in the Tubing, Contaminants Can Be Forced Into the Tubing. This Is Especially Important During Long Wet Periods, or Wintering Over.

Structure of the Techline ® CV Dripper Looking From Outlet Filtration Pressure Compensation Chamber Edge that is “Welded” to the Tubing Wall Raised Exit Hole with Root Barrier Diaphragm

Dripper Cover Diaphragm Structure of the Techline ® CV Dripper Looking From Inlet (Flipped Over) Filtering Surface Diaphragm Labyrinth Dripper Cover

Techline ® CV Applications Subsurface or on-surface installations Slopes Curved, angular or narrow planting areas High traffic/high liability areas Areas subject to vandalism High wind areas At-grade windows

Techline ® CV Applications Turf: –Residential –Commercial –Parks –Medians –Sports: Grass or clay tennis courts Soccer, football, baseball, field hockey, polo, golf courses Gardens, shrubs, plants, flowers, interiorscapes In short, any place where precise irrigation is required

Features & Benefits of Techline ® CV Pressure compensating Continuous self-flushing Drippers close on shut-down Can be installed on-surface or buried up to 6” deep Easy to design in slopes & berms All drippers deliver equal flow Drippers clean themselves whenever debris is sensed Water loss minimized Great on slopes/no low drainage All drippers turn-on at the same time More precise watering Great for use in turf, or areas where burying the dripperline is important Water does not drain out of low drippers on tubing runs with up to a 4½’ elevation change

Features & Benefits of Techline ® CV No air/vacuum relief valves required Extremely large filter Water is captured from the center of the tubing Physical root barrier Techfilter-compatible Installations are faster and less expensive Uninterrupted flow of water Ensures only the cleanest water is used Drippers are protected from root intrusion without chemical reliance Provides a limited lifetime warranty against root intrusion if the client wants it

Features & Benefits of Techline ® CV Available in 0.26, 0.4, 0.6, & 0.9 GPH dripper flow rates Available in 12”, 18” (and 24” in 0.6 and 0.9 GPH ) dripper spacings New darker brown color Broadest choice of dripper flow rates on the market New 0.26 GPH flow rate provides outstanding performance in heavy clay or clay-loam Allows the designer or contractor to choose the perfect flow and spacing to match the infiltration rate of the soil Visually identifies Techline CV to help ensure you are getting what you ask for

Filter Area - Extends Across the Entire Length of the Dripper. Any Surface Debris Is Flushed Away When the Zone Turns on for the Next Irrigation.

Pressure Compensation & Continuous Self-Flushing

These features make Techline ® CV superior to any other product available Both features work in concert with the diaphragm The diaphragm rests over the outlet hole of the dripper ensuring the proper flow of water The diaphragm also flushes debris immediately as it is sensed - other drippers only “flush” on turn-on and turn-off When the zone shuts down, the diaphragm presses against the inlet hole of the dripper, sealing the water in the tubing This function can hold back a 4½’ column of water

How Physical Root Barrier Works

Keeping Roots Out As long as soil moisture is adequate: –There is no threat of root intrusion –This is easily accomplished by daily or every other day irrigation The Techline ® CV “physical root barrier” has several unique features: –The water exits the dripper from one location, and exits the tubing from another, –Unlike other products, there is NOT an open passageway into the dripper through the tubing hole, –The raised exit hole is yet another very effective barrier for roots, and –Techline CV drippers “shut off” after operation, sealing the dripper so they aren’t a target for roots. (Can be caused by overwetting the soil surrounding the dripper outlet)

Techline ® CV General Guidelines Chart

Techline ® CV Lateral Length Data

Techline ® CV Flow Per 100’

Techline ® CV vs. Techline ® - What Stays the Same? Recommended filter: 120 mesh Recommended PRV: Up to 50 psi (recommended minimum pressure is 20 psi) Uses Techline fittings (Techline CV has the same I.D./O.D. as Techline) Fitting integrity up to 50 psi without clamps Design layout: Grid or LITE methods Use of staples Depth of burial: On-surface or bury evenly throughout the zone to a maximum of 6” Ability to use Techfilter

Techline ® CV - What Changes? Dripper operating range: –Techline CV drippers operate from 14.7 psi - 70 psi (Techline is psi) –The CV dripper doesn’t open until line pressure is 14.7 psi –All drippers shut-off at 2 psi –That equates to a 4.62’ check valve feature (2  = 4.62’) –Because Techline CV has a higher opening pressure, the recommended minimum opening pressure is 20 psi

Techline ® CV - What Changes? Maximum length of laterals: –Lateral lengths are slightly less than Techline –Example - At 45 psi:.6/18” Techline vs. Techline CV is 574’ vs. 523’.9/12” Techline vs. Techline CV is 311’ vs. 280’ –These minor reductions in lateral length still provide for maximum system design efficiency

Techline ® CV - What Changes? Ability to hold back water on slopes: –Built-in check valves seal water in laterals with up to 4½’ of vertical change –When zones on slopes have an elevation change of more than 4½’, integrate the inline Techline Check Valve (TLCV) TLCV is installed in-line like any other fitting It have an opening pressure of 7.1 psi (4m) It has a closing pressure of 5.7 psi (5m) (13’ of elevation change) Flow range: GPM ( ,000l/h) Install it whenever elevation change in a zone exceeds 4½’

Techline ® CV - What Changes? System components: –No automatic flush valve is needed: Why? –While flush valves purge debris out of the dripperline, –They may also allow water to drain out after zone shut-down “What should I do?” –Because consideration for maintenance and winterizing is still important, –A TLSOV or FIG8 line end should be installed at the point farthest away from the source –Either of these will allow manual flushing, and a good winterizing port, but will not allow water to drain from the line during the irrigation season

Techline ® CV - What Changes? System components: –No Air/Vacuum Relief Valve (A/VRV) is required: Relief valves allow air out of dripperline when the zone is activated, and Allow air into the dripperline after shutdown They typically work in conjunction with a line flushing valve In Techline CV, water is kept in the tubing after zone shut- down (up to a 4½’ column) As such, there is no reason to install an air/vacuum relief valve(s) or the valve box(es) they would go in This makes installations faster, easier, and less expensive

Techline ® CV 0.26 GPH Dripperline - The Real Opportunity? The 0.26 GPH dripper is a new opportunity for landscape applications It has been used for years in other applications It is a great application for heavy clay or clay-loam soils Its lower flow rate allows for more dripperline on a zone and slower infiltration rates On heavy clay or clay-loam, the USDA recommends a maximum precipitation rate of 0.20” per hour on a covered 0 - 5% slope On a 5 - 8% slope, it drops to 0.15” per hour, and 0.12” per hour on an % slope

Techline ® CV 0.26 GPH Dripperline - The Real Opportunity? The 0.26 GPH dripperline in an 18” x 18” pattern = 0.19” per hour In an 18” x 22” pattern, it is 0.15” per hour Maximum lengths of a single lateral of 0.26 GPH/18”: –25 psi: 604’ –35 psi: 763’ –45 psi: 877’ Flow rate per 100’: –0.26/12”: 0.44 GPM –0.26/18”: 0.29 GPM

Techline ® CV Specifications Dripper flow rates: –0.26 gph –0.4 gph –0.6 gph –0.9 gph Dripper spacings: 12”, 18”, 24”, and blank tubing Pressure compensation range of the dripper: psi Maximum recommended system pressure: 50 psi Techline CV tubing diameter: 0.66” OD; 0.56” ID Coil lengths: 100, 250, 1,000 feet Recommended filtration: 120 mesh Minimum bending radius: 7 inches Tubing material: linear low-density polyethylene
