Creating the Paper Pattern  Measure the inside length of the proximal thigh band along the proximal edge

Creating the Paper Pattern  On a piece of paper draw a rectangle 2 1/2” wide and the length of the band previously measured 2 1/2” Length of band

Determining the Angles  Place a goiniometer across the proximal edges of the thigh band with one arm on the lateral upright as shown

Determining the Angles  In order to correctly angle the extensions on the pattern you must: Determine how the pattern will be positioned on the leather material Identify the medial and lateral ends of the pattern

Leather Surfaces  Leather has two surfaces which have specific names  The finished, or grain, side is the surface which shows to the outside. It typically is shiny and smooth  The unfinished, or flesh, side is rough and dull Finished Side Unfinished Side

Determining the Angles  Using the KAFO as a reference mark the medial & lateral ends of the pattern Unfinished L M inner surface L M

Determining the Angles  From the lateral distal corner, draw a 2 ½”line at a L° angle  From the medial proximal corner, draw a 2 ½”line at a M° angle  Draw lines connecting these points to the opposite corners on the same sides Unfinished L M L° M°

Determining the Length of the Extensions  Add 3” to the proximal thigh circumference  Subtract the length of the band  Divide the result in half  This is the extension length (ExL) Example: 22 3/8”+3”= 25 3/8” 25 3/8”- 13 ”= 12 3/8” 12 3/8” / 2 = 6 3/16” 6 3/16”

Determining the Angles  Draw a rectangle the length previously computed (ExL) starting at the angled line on the lateral end  Repeat this process on the medial end L M Unfinished ExL

Extending the Pattern  Draw a rectangle the length previously computed (ExL) starting at the angled line on the lateral end  Repeat this process on the medial end LM ExL
