OUR CHARITY T he R otary F oundation

The Mission “The Mission of the Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian educational and cultural support programmes” or

TO DO GOOD IN THE WORLD It is that S SS SIMPLE

The Rotary Foundation -TRF The Only Charity in the World that - ASKS YOU FOR MONEY INCREASES THAT BY INVESTMENTS THEN ASKS YOU HOW TO SPEND THE FUNDS

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) Is Rotary’s only Charity and is funded by donations from clubs, Rotarians and individuals, either during their lifetime or by bequests

How does TRF work? Relies on the enthusiastic support of Rotarians voluntarily giving of their time and money

Who does TRF belong to? Every Rotarian whether he or she has made a contribution or not

WHO SPENDS IT? You do! Each district currently receives back 50 % of the giving which they made 3 years ago (Called the DDF funds)

Why DDF currently 50% ? The other 50% (The World Fund) is to pay for some other district programmes costs such as:- GSE team The “other” half of a “Matched” Grant & District Simplified grants - etc

DDF ?  D istrict D esignated F und REMEMBER  There is no WE and there is no THEY  It is US who say WHAT we spend and HOW we spend it

So What does DDF DO? It allows us all to undertake bigger and well controlled projects to meet the NEEDS of those we care to SERVE It has allowed, and continues to allow us to be personally involved in building a Better World working with clubs Internationally

The Rotary Foundation You share in the spending decision making:  Your contributions are used for programmes THREE years after they were received by the Rotary Foundation  Three year cycle allows the Foundation to invest your contribution to pay for all administration, programme operations, and fund development costs  Three year cycle gives Districts time for planning and selection for the District’s choice of programme awards

Programme Spending

INCOME Year ($ million) Contributions = Investment Income = 42.7 Total = Awards = 94.5 Operation costs = 15.7 Fund Development = 12.2 Administration = 5.7 (3.5%) Total = Pension Increase in Assets = 32.2

Assets ($ million) Annual Programme Fund = PolioPlus Fund= 71.3 Permanent Fund= ** Grants approved – unpaid = 71.8 Miscellaneous items = 0.2 Total = 674.7million

The League Table -2004/5 Country Per Capita US$ Taiwan Korea Japan USA Canada Italy Germany France Australia Mexico UK = £0.60 per week and 6 more below

Why a Permanent Fund?  Investment in perpetuity  Fund to provide Annual Income to fund new and expanded programmes  Portion of investment to support the Foundation programmes

YOUR WAYS OF FUNDING  Direct to Foundation – allowing a Gift Aid uplift  As a Benefactor – ‘Will’ contribution  Major Donor – special contribution to either fund  Purchase of Paul Harris Award – 1000US$  Matched Grant contribution

YOU DON’T KNOW THESE PEOPLE

But they will know you through your generosity

Anyone who informs the Foundation in writing that they have made provision in their will or estate naming the Foundation’s Permanent fund as a beneficiary.

Anyone who Bequests to The Foundation a sum of £7,000 or more in their estate

The Future - A continuation of -  Group Study Exchange  Rotary Volunteers  Health Hunger and Humanity Grants  District Simplified Grant Scheme - approx - 10% of your Contributions spent in your locality or internationally  Rotary Peace Scholarships  Ambassadorial Scholarships etc, etc, etc

The Future Depends on YOU

The Challenge !!!! YOU CAN make a DIFFERENCEDIFFERENCE

Two Needs...Two Ways to Build Our Foundation ANNUAL PROGRAMMES FUND Meets current needs PERMANENT FUND Ensures future needs can be met THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

Our goal is set YOU can help us reach our GOAL £62.50 p.a. 120p per week REMEMBER

The Rotary Foundation There is no other charity which:  Asks YOU for money  Increases YOUR donation by investment  Deducts no administration fees AND THEN  Asks how YOU want to spend the money!
