Springfield Public Schools Assessment, Research, and Accountability Team What do we do?What do we do? –Oversee District Formative Assessments - Scoring and reporting. –Serve as liaisons to District Personnel for MCAS, MEPA, MELA-O test administration. –Oversee Stanford Test Administration – Grades K, 1, 2; 6-10 –Provide data driven support - both internal and external to the district. i.e. District/School personnel; Community Based Organizations –Complete Research / Data requests both internal and external to the district. –Ensure compliance with Federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation

Springfield Public Schools The Galileo Assessment and School Information Management System What is Galileo?What is Galileo? –A research-based assessment and school information management system with on-line capabilities. –Supported by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. –SPS began implementation in August, 2007 and currently, we have completed two District Formative Assessment cycles using the tool.

Springfield Public Schools Galileo Assessment and School Information Management System How does Galileo work?How does Galileo work? –Aligns internal and external assessments with curricular performance standards. –Reliable and valid data created through continuous research and updating of psychometric properties of scales. –Offers predictability for student success based on psychometric analysis. –The ability to track progress within and across grades, determine growth trajectories, and adjust learning opportunities appropriately. –On-line capabilities provide quick and easy access to student results for educators at all levels. –Currently used to score and report District Formative Assessments for English Language Arts and Mathematics with future expansion to include District Mid- term Examinations and District Final Examinations. –Currently utilizing Galileo mathematics test items for constructing student performance portfolios for MCAS appeals.
