Time for Triangles. What is a triangle? A triangle is a polygon. It has 3 sides and 3 angles. It can also be called a trigon.
Classifying Triangles How many degrees can be found in all triangles? 180 We can classify triangles 2 ways: By their angles By their sides.

TRIANGLES Right Equilateral Obtuse - all equal sides Isosceles Acute In regards to ANGLES Right -Has 1 right angle Obtuse -Has 1 obtuse angle Acute -Has all acute angles In regards to SIDES Equilateral - all equal sides Isosceles - 2 equal sides Scalene No equal sides The hypotenuse of a right triangle will never equal the length of one of the legs. The legs form the right angle.

Volume Basic formula that works for anything: Number of cubic units in an object. Label = units3 Basic formula that works for anything: Area of the Base x Height=Volume

More Volume information All of the bases of a geometric prism need to be the same exact size and shape until we study other shapes later. A cube has layers of squares. A rectangular prism has layers of rectangles A triangular prism has layers of triangles A cylinder has layers of circles.

Cube A 4 x 4 = 16 x 4 = 64 Draw the picture What type of base does it have? A square, find its area. Are all the Layers the same? How many Layers are there? How do you finish the volume now? 4 x 4 = 16 x 4 = 64 A 4 in

Rectangular Prism 6 3 Draw the picture What type of base does a rectangular prism have? A rectangle Find the area of the rectangle; 4 x 3 = 12 How many layers of those rectangles are there? 6 Finish finding the volume now. 4 x 3 = 12 is the area of the base. Take 12 x 6 =72 that is multiplying by the height. 6 3 4 in

Cylinders Draw the picture. What type of base does it have? 6m 10 Draw the picture. What type of base does it have? Circle, find the area of it. A = 3.14 x R2 3.14 x 9 = 28.26 How many layers of circles are there? 10, find the volume. Area of the Base = 3.14 x 9 = 28.26 Times the height: 28.26 x 10 = 282.6 m3

Triangular prism Draw the picture It takes layers of what shape the same size to make this? Triangles Find the area of that triangle. 3 x 4/2 = 6 How many layers of triangles were there? 10, now find the volume 3 5 10 m 4 Area of the base= 3x4/2=6 Multiple by the H = 6 x 10 = 60 m3

Volume Application Is volume used in everyday life? How is it used and who uses it? Let’s review: Volume is the Area of the Base x Height Not L x W x H that only works for some things.
