* DR. ADAM LODZINSKI Dr. Adam Lodzinski is an experienced independent consultant and trainer. For over 20 years Adam has contributed to a wide range of fields including: learning disabilities; adult literacy; child, youth as well as adult mental health; addictions; family and child services; career development; youth employment; adult and youth justice services; community health promotion; and, early childhood and special education. Well over 4,000 members of various helping professions in over 200 organizations -including First Nations organizations - throughout Canada have attended one or more of his seminars. He is also a professor of psychology at the Adler Graduate Professional School where he teaches in the MA program in counselling. In addition to consulting, training and teaching, he offers individual, group and organizational services in conflict resolution.

Bill McLaughlin is a Clinical Psychotherapist and a professionally trained Anthropologist. For fifteen years he has been working with youth and young adults helping them understand their capacity to learn despite a learning disability. Diagnosed with severe Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder. Bill developed his own recipe for success that he used to master academics and graduate with distinction from the University of Toronto. Bill is an inspiring and charismatic speaker who uses levity and wit to promote his approach to learning.

* BUTCH SNIDER Alan “Butch “ Snider BA – BPHE – BED is currently the Associate Director, Quality Management – Training Services with the Canadian Training Institute. As an adult educator Butch has over 35 years of experience teaching Crisis Intervention training programs; Stress, Health and Wellness programs; Physical & Health education training programs including Personal Protection skills, Subject Control skills, martial arts and physical fitness. Butch retired from Correctional Services Canada as the National Master trainer for verbal and physical crisis intervention training programs. These programs included Crisis Intervention skills, Conflict Resolution skills, Crisis Negotiation skills, Stress Management Health and Wellness Education, Emergency Response Teams, Crisis Negotiation Teams, Personal Protection skills, Subject Control skills, Physical Fitness and Health Education, Use of Force training programs in Impact Weapons skills, Chemical Agents / Inflammatory munitions and Firearms. Butch has been active as a trainer in these areas across all of Canada conducting training programs for front line staff and trainers of front line staff for numerous federal, provincial and municipal agencies. Currently Butch is also the Canadian representative for the Koga Institute and head Instructor for the Goshin Ryu Aikijutsu school of self defense. Alan “Butch” Snider

JENNIFER WHITE Jennifer White currently works at the YMCA as the Manager of Greater Toronto. Jennifer started with CTI in September 2009 as the Project Coordinator of a Health Canada funded initiative, the YWTI Youth Worker Training Initiative. Training developed and implemented to support youth workers who work with youth between the ages of to better engage in conversations with the youth they serve about substance use. Jennifer has worked in prevention and education and addictions for the past 13 years, including working for the Peel Needle Exchange Program as Project Coordinator providing education, outreach and support services; the YMCA Youth Gambling Program in various capacities – one as an Outreach Worker delivering school-based and community awareness sessions about gambling and problem gambling using a harm reduction approach to youth, parents and professional; and as an Administrator and Quality Coordinator where she was responsible for overseeing the daily administration of 18 sites throughout the province including the budget and ensuring the quality of programming. At the YMCA Academy, Jennifer spent time as: an instructor for the Cooperative Education Program educating youth; a counselor engaging in brief interventions with students and families; and an administrator overseeing the daily administration and budgeting for the school. Jennifer has completed two diplomas in the field of social services – as a Human Services Worker and as an Addiction Care Worker.

John A. Sawdon, M.Sc., has extensive experience in providing training to human service and criminal justice-based agencies throughout Canada. Courses include Team Building, Organizational Dynamics and Development (OD), Basic Skills Training for Residential and Human Service Workers, Crisis Intervention and Prevention and Cross-Cultural Awareness. He has served as a consultant to numerous agencies and government departments. He co-authored A Primer On Residential Services: From a Criminal Justice Perspective and contributed to the Community Impact Study: The Effect of Locating Correctional Group Homes in Residential Neighbourhoods. He is a member of the (SEITAR) International Society for Intercultural Training and Research and the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioural Sciences OD network.

KRISTIN THOMPSON Kristin Thompson (DSW) currently works for the Griffin Centre as a Residential Coordinator within the adult mental health sector. She brings to CTI 5 years of experience supporting individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, mental health diagnoses, and more recently has experience working with clients moving through the justice system. In her current role at the Griffin Centre, Kristin supports a transitional treatment residence for adults with mental health and/or developmental disabilities. In her work with adolescents at the Griffin Centre, Kristin’s roles included day school support staff and the summer program coordinator. Kristin previously worked at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) as a Developmental Worker on the Dual Diagnosis unit and as a Facilitator/Coach for CAMH’s Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (PMAB) program.

Margo Van Honsberger is an adult educator who brings a wealth of experience to the crisis training team. She has been involved with CTI since She currently works as the Intake Coordinator for Brain Injury Community Re- Entry (Niagara) Inc., where she works directly with individuals who have sustained a brain injury and their family members. Margo is active in facilitating sessions for staff on a variety of topics including Neuro-Anatomy, Areas of Rehabilitation, Defusing Anger, Resistance and Hostility, and ABI and Substance Use. With her background in education and an interest in promoting active staff participation, Margo enjoys working with agencies and meeting new people.

PAUL HYMAN Paul Hyman is a “Brain Trainer” specialist combining mind/body approaches and brain research. A therapist, 10 years at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) he was on the design team responsible for creating Ontario’s first problem gambling program. A contributing author for CAMH’s newest publication “Becoming Trauma Informed” Paul’s experiential style of teaching makes for a fun, one-of- a-kind memorable learning experience.

Tom Walker is an Education Specialist with Ornge where his key responsibility is developing and implementing training programs for paramedics who are working with combative patients and having difficult discussions with family members and health care providers. Previously he worked as the Clinical Supervisor of Nexus Youth Services and the Concurrent Disorders Program. He is a trained Clinical Traumatologist & Certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist, associate trainer and consultant through the Traumatology Institute. Tom has a private practice where he also works with trauma, addictions and mental health counselling for adolescents, adults and families. He has been the Director of Business Development and Training with CTI where he “trained people helping people” and took leadership roles with the Youth Worker Training Initiative and the Breaking the Cycle program (Youth Gang Exit Strategy). Before CTI, Tom has 23 years of experience working in the social services sector in frontline, management and senior leadership roles.

Tom Fulgosi Tom Fulgosi has worked in the social services field for over 14 years. Tom’s background is in addictions and harm reduction. He is a certified addictions counselor. For the past 13 years, Tom has worked in all aspects of harm reduction, contributed to the development and implementation of a risk reduction program for crack cocaine addicted homeless men, supervised front-line staff in one of North America’s largest men’s hostels, and help establish a High Needs Program specifically tailored to homeless men in crisis. More recently, Tom facilitates a Criminal Justice and Addiction course for Centennial College and provides training to Seaton House front-line staff. Tom also leads a team of five outreach workers providing follow-up support to newly housed men in the community. Tom has served as a crisis trainer with CTI for 3 years

Laval Martin, has worked in the social service sector for more than 8 years (since 2005). He has experience working with people experiencing poverty and homelessness, developmental disabilities and other mental health challenges. He has developed and delivered workshops on topic from crisis intervention and conflict resolution to documentation practices and time management. Laval has practiced various martial arts for more than 12 years (since 2001), with a focus on avoiding, and de-escalating conflict.
