Agenda * Introduction to First Lego League (FLL) * Themed FLL Challenge * Judging/scoring points in the competition * Question and Answer

FLL Vision The LEGO Group has created a powerful program that helps young people discover the fun in science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge, and valuable employment and life skills.

FLL Vision ■ Inspires children to participate in science and technology. ■ Engages children in playful and meaningful learning. ■ Provides a fun, creative, hands-on learning experience. ■ Encourages children to think like scientists and engineers. ■ Challenges children to solve real-world problems using robotics. ■ Connects teams to their community. ■ Teaches children to experiment and overcome obstacles. ■ Builds self-esteem and confidence.

What is First Lego? TEAMS OF 6-10 STUDENTS, AGES 9-14  Build autonomous LEGO robots to solve challenges on a 4’ x 8’ field in a time trial competition.  Complete a research project and do five minute presentation of their ideas to a panel of judges.  Robot challenges and research projects are related to an exciting current topic in technology or science. HOW DOES IT WORK?  12 weeks to design, construct, program, and test solutions.  Use LEGO MINDSTORMSTM NXT.  Compete with peers in high-energy tournaments with an emphasis on good sportsmanship.
