CSA a rough guide

Format 13 ten minute consultations (1 is a “home visit” At RCGP in London Costs £1352 (not fully covered by pay by instalments system with RCGP) Sittings in: Oct, Dec, Feb, March, April, May

Equipment EquipmentYou should bring your doctor’s bag containing the usual diagnostic equipment with you, including: BNF BNF for children Stethoscope Ophthalmoscope Auroscope Tape measure Peak flow meter and disposable mouthpieces (N.B. These must be EU standard) Please note that there is no need to bring a sphygmomanometer

Preparation Know your guidelines (AKT is a good place to start) Buddy up to practice cases – groups of 3 ideally. Exam preparation course – I did Dr Giam’s MentorCSA course (funded by deanery) Reflect on day to day cases

Study groups Start a good few months ahead of time Be harsh patients – take offence, don’t offer up ICE too easily, don’t understand jargon… Be harsh examiners Repractice same cases – practicing consulting skills not content Cover tricky cases: BBN, consent/confidentiality, angry pt, uncertain diagnosis, unreasonable request….
