A random sample of Ontario residents (comprised of 100,000 men and 100,000 women) alive between 1991 and 1999 was selected from the Registered Persons Database with the same age and sex distribution as observed in the CABG surgery cohort of this study. The Registered Persons Database contains information on all persons in Ontario possessing a valid health card number.
