Medical Workforce Issues Provision of Rota Templates and Induction Packs Work with Rota Coordinators/Payroll Rotate FY Doctors through placements Support Guardian of Safe Working Hours Exception Reporting Operational Support for Trainees Not part of the Division – support if concerns Rotation will include ‘Amendment to Contracts’

Exception Reporting Oversight by DME and GOSW Report Regular or Significant Issues Report within 7 days (consideration for payment, 14 days (consideration for TOIL) Discussion with CS/ES Swift Resolution Locally Work Schedules can be reviewed Ensure the hours you work are safe for you and your patients

Rota Design All 2016 and 2002 contract compliant No changes to rota templates will happen without Trainee agreement Rota Templates are signed off by HoD, Finance, Trainees, Director of Medical Education and Guardian of Safe Working Hours Remuneration is linked directly to Working Patterns

Additional Hours Work up to 48 hours per week on average (normally averaged over 17 weeks) To work Additional Hours, an Opt Out must be signed An Opt Out enables a working pattern up to 56 hours per week on average Must not work more than 72 hours of actual work in a consecutive 7 day period SWAPS must be compliant with contractual rules

Additional Hours Individual doctors have a professional responsibility for ensuring that their hours of work, including any work undertaken for any other employer, comply with the regulatory limits Junior Doctor Contract 2016

Sickness Absence and Reporting Report as soon as practicable to your Rota Co-ordinator (Trainee Doctor Support Team if you do not have a Rota Co-ordinator) Recording and Monitoring Sickness Absence that triggers the Lead Employer policy is managed Policy on the OneHR

Annual Leave Please book in accordance with your departments requirements (via your Rota Co-ordinator) Book as early as possible to ensure you can get the leave you need (6 weeks notice required) If you have rotations within the trust split your leave equally between rotations to allow the equal educational opportunities

Guardian of Safe Working Hours Role to support the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract Ensure the hours you work are safe for you and your patients Supports a system that addresses issues of overworking/poor training and poor supervision in a local, responsive and timely manner.

What does the GOSW support Act as the champion of safe working hours Receive your exception reports and record and monitor compliance against your terms and conditions Escalate issues to the relevant executive director, or equivalent for decision and action Intervene to reduce any identified risks to you or your patients’ safety Undertake a work schedule review where there are regular or persistent breaches in safe working hours Distribute monies received as a consequence of financial penalties, to improve your training and service experience
